I have this thing for snow… now I wouldn’t say I exactly love it… that would be pushing it a tad far.

I love the idea of snow, the way when it falls and you’re all wrapped up snug and warm and everything sounds muffled…silent…that’s when I love snow.

I guess you could say I’m a fair weathered lover of snow, as long as it’s crisp,  bright white and I can gaze at it longingly from my vantage point of warmth… then it’s my best friend.

But when it’s slushy gray vile and will just not leave….when you have to climb mount Everest just to vacate your vehicle… then I hate it with a passion usually reserved for the genuinely evil of this world.

Photoshop: Camera Girl A Drawing on Canvas

Posted in black picture frame on January 23rd, 2010 by Sue Hodgson – Be the first to comment

Who’s that girl?

What girl?

The one one with the camera…

That’s Camera Girl…

Photoshop Tutorial: For turning a photograph into a drawing on canvas can be found on iTunes unfortunately this is the last episode of PixelPerfect with Bert Monroy :(

When I’d finished this photo I had to think of some journaling to add to it, I decided against a long entry and went instead for a simple one line… camera girl.  Now that title reminds me of a song that takes me back a few years, it’s funny how the mind works (well my monkey mind anyway), do you remember it Party Girl by U2, I love that song…off for a listen.

Double Picture Frames

Posted in black picture frame on January 18th, 2010 by Sue Hodgson – Be the first to comment

Gingerbread House, originally uploaded by Groobers.

Each year we create a gingerbread house and each year I photograph the finished masterpiece.

Last year no house was created because sadly I had left it too late and though I searched high and low, unfortunately everyone had sold out.:(

This year I was determined that this would not be the case so I bought early and the creation was made, I think it’s the best yet.

Now I think a frame is in order to celebrate the return of the gingerbread house.

I got to thinking that perhaps I should buy one of the many different double picture frames available, now my only problem is which one.

One side of the frame I could fill with the picture above and the other side with the story of the gingerbread house.

How do you create personalized memories for your home?

Cheers Sue :)

Ideas for a Sports Event Collage

Posted in black picture frame on September 21st, 2009 by Sue Hodgson – Be the first to comment

You go to the same sporting event year in year out, pushing your way into position to capture that perfect shot, taking your life into your hands each and every year to get that one of a kind memory, sounds familar?

So why not, after all that effort don’t you take this idea for a “Through The Years…” creation that looks back at all those precious moments you have managed to collect over the years?

Sshh I promise not to tell…

Let people mavle at how creative you are “what a great idea for a photo collage” I can almost hear them saying…

You have got it displayed front and centre right?

Come on now, you’ve gone to all that time and effort coming up with the idea (our little secret;)) then designing and working on your project, the very least you can do is to frame and display it!

You don’t have to buy any fancy pants frame, we want your artwork to do the talking not the frame that it’s in so just pick up any cheap black picture frame fill it with your creation and as they say “Bob’s your uncle” or “there you have it” (for the more sane amongst you).

Don’t let me down now at the final hurdle…

  • Created
  • Framed

Last step hanging your collage picture framed masterpiece in the most prominent position on your wall, now sit back relax (you’ve earned it) and discuss how much they’ve changed over the years with all your family and friends.

“hasn’t he grown” “look how he’s changed” “who cut his hair…mum!!” “he was so cute” ( of course it goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway, the he could just as easily be she, hay girls play sports just as well as boys do if not better…am I right girls ?

Black Picture Frame

Posted in black picture frame on September 15th, 2009 by Sue Hodgson – Be the first to comment

A large black picture frame is a great way to show off your photographs and one way of displaying any multi pictures that you have created.

Decorating walls with your creations can go a long way to providing interest and fun to any boring white walls.

A black frame can look great filled with different pictures, but another idea is to take one particular favorite photograph and to create a multi picture effect on it and in this way you will be decorating your walls with something unusual that you have created yourself.

Decide on the photograph you would like to showcase in your black picture frame.

Make any changes to the tone, contrast and color of your photograph.

Add the muti photo effect that you want to achieve on your picture using your photo editing software of choice.

Print out your creation either at home or by using one of the many photo printing services readily available both in stores or on the internet.

Place your photo into your frame which then wil act as a blank canvas for your creation.

Adding a black matt around the photo within your frame will further enchance the look of your artwork.

Finally all that’s left to do is the actual hanging of your frame on the wall, then to stand back and admire your creation.

Here is an example of a picture collage made from one photograph, the before photo and then the after effect that was achieved by using photo editing software.

Black Picture Frame Before Collage Effect

Black Picture Frame After Collage Effect

Another type of collage you could create instead of using just one photograph is to try blending a group of photographs together into one by using gradient layers and the brush tool within your photo editing software.  A particular event can be captured well without you having to display lots of different photographs of the day, just combine them altogether into one collage picture.

Paragliding Collage Picture
All that’s needed now is a black picture frame, a picture hook and a hammer.

Ice cream anyone? or is it time for paragliding perhaps!
